Wrap Around Season

BlogBlog 2020

A couple of weeks off & we began again through it felt strange starting the new wrap around season with the US Open.

US Open

Back to Winged Foot where last time around I had a top 10 finish. My first port of call was to settle up with Robbie from 2 years ago at Shinnecock Hills, as I remember I must have tripped & fallen against the locker causing it to fall apart……… Robbie felt I was still a little warm last year so left it 2 years before asking for reimbursement for the damage!

My love, hate relationship with the US Open continued and an opening 75 set the tone, was so angry about the rd., 3 bogeys with an 8, 9 & wedge in my hand add a 3 putt bogey & there you have it. Friday resulted in a 77 and I had the weekend off……. As I had a @footjoy commercial shot on Monday I stayed over the weekend & did some commentary on Instagram; ‘I’m not sure he is going to like that lie…. He may need a hedge trimmer instead of a wedge’ It was funny reading some of the comments from my posts, people do not understand I am giving a simple & honest review, I just do not like playing US Opens & nothing against the tournament.

Scottish Open

Back to the UK for the first time this year due to the Covid situation, September 29th was our wedding anniversary, although not at home I am a lucky man to have my wife.

I have a huge respect for everyone that worked to make this event possible in these current times, the course is beautiful, just look at this stunning picture I took early evening. I played with @westwood_lee first 2 days, opening up with a 67 & a 2nd rd. 66 had me well placed going into the weekend.

Saturday in Scotland…… really cannot remember the last time I played in such weather, all credit to the green keeping staff & the condition of the course holding all that rain & managing to complete the rd. I really hang in there until the final few holes, dropped a couple of shots which was very annoying but a 73 in those conditions & I had to be happy. Took us till the morning to dry everything out mind you! Sunday the decent weather returned, got off to a slow start but then nobody really got going. I got to the 13th 1 back I think & just hit a’ low bullet pull’ out of bounds, 1 poor tee shot all week & I took myself out of the tournament ahhhh. Birdied the last 2 holes to finish T6 but absolutely devastated about the finish. Had a small problem with my back but felt ok heading down to Wentworth for the BMW championship.

BMW Championship

I have not had much success around Wentworth through I love playing the @europeantour flag ship event. Played with @samhorsfield & @justinprose99 first 2 days. Had to have some physio for my back spasms all day on course during the 1st Rd but eased off over the weekend & had my best finish ever here shooting 69,70,68,68 for a 5th place so a lot of positives to take out of this week.

That weekend Luke played the #BillyHoJr hosted by @billyho_golf. Luke got off to a great start T3 finally finishing T6, another solid week’s golf & trending in the right direction.

CJ Cup

From London to Las Vegas, only one way to go PRIVATE! We flew with the owner of the Renaissance Club (host of the Scottish Open) @officialtommyfleetwood @finoefc his caddy, @mattfitz94 & his caddy @billy66foz, @terrymundy66 & myself. It’s a long way folks so we stop off at the NORTH POLE to re-fuel, cannot tell how cold it was, I think minus 40…….

Terry is on my bag through to February next year, James & himself share 50/50 which normally works out well between the USA & Europe but this year like everything went upside down. Well aside of my 12th place finish the biggest story of the week was my VEGAS trousers. I had so much fun designing these & the feedback you give me on social media was positive, ok there is always a few that have a different opinion Ha-ha but hey that ok. I am planning to do more in the future.

Played steady through Saturday let me down with a 73, the toll of the travel, weather in Scotland & my back caught up with me but managed to grind out a last rd. 68 to open up my PGA 2021 season. Same weekend @LUKEPOULTS24 won the team Districts & a nice birdie on the 1st playoff hole secured Luke the individual title. Great playing boys & thanks to @andrewloseygolf Luke’s coach.

So I have had 2 weeks off which has been nice with the family, enjoyed Halloween together & started packing my bags for Huston along with my outfit but unfortunately my back is still not 100% ready so I had to sadly pull out to get some rest, light gym work not to stress it and miss the Masters.

On Tuesday we flew to Augusta with Terry to get a feel for the course as it will play different this time of year, so far my back is holding up well. Wednesday afternoon we launch www.ianpoultershop.com with these beauties which sold out within hours! For now, we could only ship to the USA, Canada, UK & Ireland so I apologies to those of you around the rest of the world, we are looking at how to make it cost effective shipping to rest of the world & hopefully for the next batch of product we were be able to service you.

The week after the Masters I am due to play the RSM dependent on my back being ok. Than a week back home & my final event of the year, the DP world tour championship in Dubai. Currently 48 in the world rankings & will be playing hard to stay inside that top 50 going into 2021.

I will look to open 1 more blog before Christmas
Until next time, stay safe
