Hi, everyone, it’s been 6 to 7 weeks since my last blog. I finished up the PGA tour season and had a great 4 weeks’ rest at home before heading over to the UK end of September for the European Tours flagship event the BMW Championship. So let’s catch up starting with the end of the PGA tour 2019.
The Northern Trust New York
Closed up the house in the UK and flew to New York with the family so we could spend the week before the kids starting back at school. I also flew Terry Mundy over to caddy for me this week and next as James’ wife gave birth to their baby. Congratulations to the proud father and mother! Got off to a really good start shooting 68 and 66, heading into the weekend well placed. Conditions Saturday were tough but hang in there shooting a 71 to give myself a chance of a top 5 setting me up nicely heading to Chicago. On Sunday a run of bogies around the turn pushed me back, however a strong finish led to a 68 and a T10.
BMW Championship Chicago
Back to the famous scenes of the 2012 Ryder Cup and a chance to make the Tour Championship at East Lake the following week so why not wear a pair of @RyderCupEurope?
Rounds of 70/70 had me reasonably placed. Saturday got it going with birdies on 14 and 15 and then finished with a slightly different ending to the Saturday 7 years ago… Bogey, bogey, double left me angry and disappointed. Was in a position at -9 and finished in an ambulance! A closing 69 left me T31 and that was the end of my 2019 season, finishing 41st in the Fed-Ex Cup.
Home Time
The first week in between helping Katie with the school run. Just took the opportunity to wind down after all the travel between the USA and UK. Also started to catch up with things happening off the golf course, of course the main one being us moving back into our dream house after 3 and a half years which we are now doing as I write this. So excited we finally got it done!
We are also looking at the possibility of offering some limited products that you may all like. The first one we have designed is the ‘Postbox Postman’ putter covers. I posted these on social media back in late August and the reaction from you all was really encouraging. Will you keep posted.
Also hosted a sponsor day @lakenonagc for new vision sport with @auraelifestyle
BMW Championship Wentworth England
Third week of September is the European Tour’s flagship event, I flew over on the Saturday so I could go watch an Arsenal game playing away to Watford, something I have not done in ages. It was a real buzz being back at a live game, however will not say anything for the result.
Picked up G-wagon V8 Bi turbo in green from @mercedesamg for the week, great fun
Monday I was invited to open the Royal Norwich golf club who re-located from their historical home. The new course, costing in the region of £15 million, is situated 10 miles outside of Norwich city center and has been built by European Golf Design. I was the first to play it and the course looks great. They’re making the bunkers nice and perfect. What makes a great course is the condition, the layout, the bunker positioning, green complexes and the entire visual aspect. Course design is interesting for me and something I may consider when I finally pack away my clubs. That’s of course if anyone is prepared to let me loose, haha.
The Pro-Am at Wentworth is always great fun and I invited Pat @dreamflight to walk with us and also caught up with Aidan who is doing great with his new golf position.
Sadly, it was not a good week for me (some tree trouble!). However I love coming back to play in the UK – the crowds were amazing and the event was a great successful. Played early Sunday morning with Ernie and managed to get to see Arsenal play Aston Villa at home with my dad. Twice in a week away and home, happy days!
So that’s it for now. 2 weeks off, then the Italian Open returning to Olgiata having great memories from 2002.
Then CJ Cup in Korea, ZoZo Japan, over to the WGC in Shanghai China and back home for 6 days. Going to be racking up the air miles again!
Until next time
