GOLF BLOG

BlogBlog 2020

Dear Friends, I know we are still facing challenges but it is great to talk golf again! I’m writing this in my week off before another run of events. Since my last blog I tried to keep busy with various stuff and doing my bit to support the battle against Covid-19.

Sky Sports back in April showed the ‘Miracle of Medinah’ and invited a number of us to join in live commentary during the show. Really enjoyed interacting with Luke Donald and Paul McGinley who was a vice captain that week.

I shared this on Instagram but wanted to include in the blog as it’s one of the funniest messages I have received in a long time. It’s great to see people have a sense of humor during these challenging times!

Covid-19 Support

Together with @auraelifestyle we successfully completed 3 initiatives to help our frontline workers. Here in Orlando with the help of @swineandsons we delivered 200 meal kits to the emergency department nurses @adventhealth East. In New York we supplied Northwell Health & Manhasset with the help of @askilysa. In the United Kingdom we delivered to the wonderful @nhsenglandidn staff with our close friends @tomsstory & @smithandbrock.

You all know I spent a bit of time signing a load of gear to put up for auction on the web site. The response was just amazing and I cannot thank you all enough. Some 700+ items were sold out inside 48 hours and we raised over 60,000 USD which we shared with …………

Graduation Time & Birthdays

Beginning of May Aimee was accepted to @clemsonuniversity. So proud of our eldest daughter and now I have a team to support, that’s if she will have her dad to some games. Go Tigers!

Luke turned 16 on the 23rd May. Time has gone quickly and he has grown into a wonderful young man, my golfing buddy and friend.

Lilly also graduated 5th grade. Although we had to do a drive by at the school it was wonderful to decorate the car and pass the teachers out the front of the school to a DJ playing music.

Golf

It was time to start prepping for a return to work. I spent a lot of the time in the studio after the longest layoff of my 22 years on tour and must say aside of the situation it felt wonderful to give the body a full rest. Time to come back stronger than ever.

Charles Schwab Challenge

So happy to be back on tour though without the fans it was a strange experience. However full credit to @pgatour for the whole organization keeping us all safe and following health guidelines. Not an easy task at all but everyone brought into it and the event went off successful with all the media attention on being the first event back.
For myself, I was really pleased with my performance T29 with 2 rds. under par and 2 even par rds. and even more excited that @lukepoults24 received an invite to play the @maridoe_junior_invitational. Some of the best juniors competed @maridoegolfclub with Luke finishing T20. Great experience for him and lots to take away from this week.

RBC Heritage

One of my favorite events on tour. After last week’s warm up I was looking forward to it which started according to plan with a first rd. 64 and the lead. Sadly, the putter let me down over the weekend with 4 times three putts, resulting in a T14.For myself, I was really pleased with my performance T29 with 2 rds. under par and 2 even par rds. and even more excited that @lukepoults24 received an invite to play the @maridoe_junior_invitational. Travelers Championship

Third week in a row like the majority of us and we started to face a knock back on positive testing for Covid-19. Brooks pulled out after his caddie and a few others testing positive and the tour received some negative press. I decided to address the issue on my Instagram page before the start of the tournament with my opinion and I stated this is my personal take.
It was inevitable that we were going to have cases. The bubble created has worked pretty well, everyone has done an amazing job and, yes, tweaks will be made. But from 2757 tests in 3 weeks just 7 people to test positive is pretty good and I wish them all a speedy recovery. Of course, do not get me wrong we all want it to be ZERO but it’s just not going to happen at this point in the return of the nation. Maybe we felt too comfortable and have to be more on-guard until a vaccine is developed.

Anyway, I said my piece, some people may not like my view but that’s what makes life interesting. So back to the tournament, guess I just run out of gas this week, nothing clicked and finished 64th, very disappointing. I did receive some media attention on Sunday, which even made the UK newspapers. Guess they must be light on content! As in the picture below ALWAYS blame someone else when you let one rip off the tee, haha.

So, I am planning to play Jack’s place the next 2 weeks, then 2 weeks off and start again with the WGC in Memphis.

Stay safe!
