The summer had its highs and lows, playing a run of 5 events, starting with Jack’s place at Muirfield Village.
It’s been 11 years since playing at Muirfield. Set for 2 weeks in a row, started off great with a T5 with my short game being on fire from the sand, just 6’8 proximities to the hole over 34 rds. this year. So, I was looking forward to the following week.
On the Wednesday Graeme Mcdowell and I played a charity match against Jon Rahm and Tony Finau. We raised a total of 150,000 USD for our chosen charities, my highlight being a hole out for eagle from some 120 yards on the par 5 11th which only earnt us a half in the skins! It was great to meet Jack & Barbara and at the end of the match the famous Muirfield milkshakes were waiting. We also had some great fun with Gmac’s trainer Matt who caddied for him.
Received a nice bag tag from Grace, the Nationwide Patient champion for this year before the start.
The course was set up different this week and with tough wind conditions, the greens firmed up and I just made silly mistakes which lead to a missed cut after a 76 and 73. So disappointing after the previous week, so homeward bound to have a week with the family.
This is one of my favourite events of the year. Fed-Ex do so much to support @stjude children hospital. This year @footjoys created these amazing shoes with pictures from the children of their favorite things.
Following on from previous event, my game did just not click resulting in a T69, no more to say.
Strange to be playing the FIRST major of the year in August. @vokeywedges made some custom design wedges so decided to remind myself we are being ‘mic’ this week!
What a rolling costal time with my emotions! Started off with a 1st rd. 73 and 2nd rd. 68, just making the cut. After 21 holes I was +6. For the remaining 51 holes I was -10 which still included 4 stupid 3-putt bogeys and 3 genuine bogeys, as well as 17 birdies 3rd rd. 66 matching the best score of the day and shooting up the leaderboard and a last rd. 69 gave me a finish of T22. Amazing how your spirits sore and sharing the picture below really reminds me how grateful I should be living this life. That’s the rewards of the hard work it has taken and gets even harder as I get older. Could have been watching from my sofa over the weekend.
Headed into the week in 88th in the standings and a good week would have moved me onto Chicago. That week the @PGATOUR2K21 launched and I was delighted to be one of the featured players. Nice to see they caught me on a clean-shaven day!
TPC Boston has always been a mystery for me, all these years and it still gets to me. Started off well first 2 rds., played well 3rd rd. but could not score and a T39 had me heading home and the end of my 2020 season. The myth of East Lake continues.
On a happy note 17 years ago – the same weekend as a 27 -year old I won on @Europeantour at @CelticManor and was lucky enough to have Aimee cheering me on.
So now I am in the middle of a 3-week layoff at home and look forward to the US Open at Winged Foot later this month and will look at my schedule for the Autumn.
Until next time – continue to stay safe in these challenging times we face.
