Darren Clarke, the European Captain for The 2016 Ryder Cup, has named Ian Poulter as his fourth Vice Captain for the contest against the United States at Hazeltine National in September.

The 40 year old Englishman will bring not only a wealth of experience to Clarke’s backroom team, having played five times for Europe in the biennial contest, he will also bring the famous passion and commitment that has made him one of the most fearsome competitors in the tournament’s 89 year history.

Following his team's dominant performance at the EurAsia Cup, captain Darren Clarke strongly hinted that Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood would, in some capacity, be at this year's Ryder Cup.

"What Lee and Poults have brought to the team room has been priceless," said Clarke. "All of the young kids have listened to them, they've all learnt from them and I think it's been a hugely beneficial week."

Ian Poulter believes the time has come to start climbing back up the world rankings after slipping to 67th place following a poor run of form.

The Englishman, who turned 40 in January, has endured a difficult winter as his mother continues her recovery from a life-threatening aneurysm suffered last October.
