IAN POULTER

Thank you, 2018, welcome 2019!

Managed a week at home before heading off to Dubai where I had picked up a virus in China and had a bad week with my asthma and not feeling good in general.

DP World Tour Championship

This course fits my eye and I generally play well here. But the combination of not feeling well which meant I was not able to practice and the long flight to Dubai hit me harder than I thought. The week was a big disappointment – finishing well down the field and actually on the last day 1st out on my own where I whizzed round in just over 2 hours and shot 69! On the Tuesday we announced live the winners of the amazing @Footjoy RYDER CUP shoes, Europe & USA. Congratulations to the winners from the UK and Australia! A big thank you to all who entered – the numbers were beyond our expectations and I had a lot of fun filming the videos announcing the winners. And a big thank you to our partners @ShipSticks for shipping all around the world from here in the USA to as far as New Zealand.

ISPS Handa World Cup of Golf

My last event for 2018 – I was really proud to have represented England after being invited to partner Tyrrell Hatton. I love visiting Australia and especially Melbourne where I have had success in the past. We got off to a fast start as joint leaders on the 1st day in the 4 balls. 2nd day in the foursomes the weather was brutal, but we hung in there to stay in touch. Over the weekend we just could not get it going and finished T8. Back Home (Finally)
Those that follow me on Instagram know this was most likely the longest flying time in my life. Some 32 hours to get home (including missing my last connection in NYC to Orlando)! So happy to put the clubs away for 6 weeks, take the kids to school and just recharge the batteries.

Dreamflight Charity Day

My favorite time of the year – being able to give back to those in need. I am very proud to be a patron of this charity, it’s a great fun on the run up receiving all the auction items and the goodies for the golf day. This year we had something different at the auction – @BenMosleyArt come over and created this live piece of art with significance to winning this year and making the Masters & @RyderCupEurope.

This was my 5th year and our best ever raising an amazing 675,000 USD bringing the total in 5 years to 1,725,000 USD!

Reflections on 2018

I look back on this year that carried so many emotions, of course Huston and the Ryder Cup being the main highlights. In general, being comfortable with where I am after challenging and stressful previous 2 years on and off the course. In times of trouble you find out who your real friends are and how important is the support of your family.
I wish you all the best for 2019 around the world and a big thank you for the support and words of encouragement! Early start for me in January at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua.
Until the New Year!
